Ozzy sheila turned down for job at Aldi rejects rejection in bloody beauty of a letter

There’s nothing like a bit of creative thinking and assertiveness in life. Deadset, have a look at pretty much every one stationed above you in the hierarchy at work. If they’re not actually a top bloke or a top sheila, they probably got to where they are by talking themselves up, bullcrapping their way through the 9 – 5, and bluffing it. And you know what? It’s hard to knock ‘em for it. It’s a good tactic. Just ask young Ozzy sheila, Jessica Irving…

This cheeky young lass was bloody disheartened when Aldi emailed her to give her the big, ‘yeah, nah.’ She’d applied for a job, and the supermarket chain wasn’t keen. She didn’t make the cut. Fortunately for her, though, she made a last desperate play. And guess what, it friggen worked.

Fair dinkum, she fired up the old email machine, hit reply and typed the following into the window:

“Although my application was rejected, I have been applying for jobs for over a year now with no success. My skills are on par with your store, with the ability to be exceptionally fast paced to scan items like every ALDI Team Member does.

I pride myself on my impressive sale skills and can describe myself to be very persuasive and show effectiveness. So persuasive in fact, that I would like to confidentially reject your rejection. Thank you for letting me be a part of the team, I won’t let you down.

See you on Monday for my 9-5 shift.”

“I was just upset by the response given as I carefully checked the job description and my cover letter to make sure everything was perfect and I’d be a strong candidate, so to get rejected after the dedication I had already given was rough,” she reckons.

As we said above, though, this time they were like, ‘Ah, bugger it. Give her a fair whirl of the wombat.” Yeah, nah, they offered her an interview. “I was thoroughly surprised to have gotten the group interview after my rejection,” she says. Aldi even spoke out to say it’s a one-time thing and that they reward my original thinking.”

And there you have it. There’s no word yet on the how interview went, but good bloody luck, Jess. You’ve earned it.

Final thought: This seems to us like a proper Aussie Battler story and we bloody love it. Matter of fact, we reckon you can all learn from it. If you’re down in a hole, don’t bloody give up. Get up swinging and give it your best shot. After all, if you’ve got nothing to lose, you may as well give it a crack, right?
