Image of Jesus appear in the f***en sky of Italy

If there’s one thing we definitely know about Jesus, it’s that he bloody loves Italy. His chosen dude, the Pope lives there, and there’s tonnes of other cool Jesus stuff there to boot. You’ve got the Vatican, you’ve got the Duomo of Milan, and you’ve got the shroud of Turin – among tonnes of others, but while those monuments to the bearded bloke in the sky seem like they’ll exist forever, Jesus’s latest appearance over Italy was far more fleeting. Apparently. Some say that he’s been seen in a sunbeam visible from the town of Agropoli.

Now, obviously, there’s a whole load of faith involved in this one. But that’s all right. That’s usually the case when Jesus appears in an unexpected place. You may have seen Jesus in your toast. Or in a cloud. Or even on the back of a truck. But this time, he came down right where you do expect him to. The sky.

Apparently, anyway. Looking at that picture, I’m not convinced that’s not Darth Vader. I mean, if you stuck a lightsabre in his hand, it’d really change up your perspective. Anyway, whatever you believe, the photographer responsible for the shot, Alfredo, said:

“I was enchanted by the view. I don’t often share pictures on social media, but when I took this one, I instantly felt like I wanted other people to see it, because it was so beautiful.”

And, to be fair to Alfredo, who’s named after a particularly good pasta, it’s not a bad shot. And that’s true whether you reckon it’s Jesus, Darth Vader, or anyone else under the sun.

On top of that, though, what we need to be fair dinkum about is that whether or not you see sunbeams coming down from the sky or you see the son of God, you can attach whatever meaning makes you happy. And we know that right now, the Catholics in particular need something to make them feel like everything’s going to be all right.

Besides, Jesus did say, “I am the light,” didn’t he?

Final thought: Whatever your thoughts on religion, you can’t deny that beautiful works of nature – like the one in Alfredo’s photo – do lend themselves to deeper thought, analysis, meaning and projection. Have a look at it. Be happy, be angry, be whatever you choose, but make sure you also admire the view.
