Disabling one gene will let you eat as much as you want without becoming fat

With the Christmas season coming up, you might be thinking about all the top-notch food you’re gonna f**ken smash while trying to ignore the reality that if you’re not smart about it, you’re probably gonna whack on a few kilos. While nothing’s gonna change this Christmas, scientists reckon that in coming years, they’ll be able to prevent you from gaining weight – even if you eat a metric f**ktonne of food.

Recently, scientists from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Flinders University in Australia have been f*cking with mice genes to see what they could find out about metabolic processes and weight-gain. What they discovered is that by blocking the RCAN1 gene, the mice became immune to diet-related weight gain.

They’re hoping they can use this research to develop a weight-loss pill that has the same effect in humans. Essentially, blocking that gene ‘supercharged’ the metabolism of lab-mice and let them burn more calories. Professor Damien Keating of Flinders University said:

“These results show we can potentially make a real difference in the fight against obesity. We have already developed a series of drugs that target the protein that this gene makes, and we are now in the process of testing them to see if they inhibit RCAN1 and whether they might represent potential new anti-obesity drugs.”

Obviously, this sh*t would be great – and not just for dudes who want to be fat b*stards and eat as much as possible without the downside of bulking the f**k up. There are sh*tloads of people who have actual metabolic conditions, or chronic obesity that a solution like this would help massively.

Keating said, “In light of our results, the drugs we are developing to target RCAN1 would burn more calories while people are resting. It means the body would store less fat without the need for a person to reduce food consumption or exercise more.”

Obviously, you’d still need to eat a balanced diet for your general health.

Final thought: If science can make this sh*t happen, it’d be f**ken grouse. If they can’t, I guess we just need to go back to the old-fashioned tapeworm.
