Machine Gun Kelly & Travis Barker cover RATM’s “Killing In The Name” in support of Black Lives Matters
If you’re of a certain vintage, you probably know that anyone who knows their s**t knows that RATM are the ultimate protest band. Deadset, from their presence at the huge protests over the second Iraq War to their always political songs and DVDs, these guys knew how to bring the f**ken fury with a catchy chorus and a massive riff. With that said, it was only a matter of time before someone busted out a cover of their most famous track, Killing in the Name. So yeah, step forward, Travis Barker and Machine Gun Kelly…
If we’re fair dinkum about it, there’s no doubt the Rage Against The Machine classic is one that’s f**ken timeless. Plenty of angry garage bands have had a crack at covering the seminal track, and pretty much everyone has had a bit of fun singing along to the infamous ‘F**k you, I won’t do what you tell me’ part.

Barker and Machine Gun Kelly have been doing their thing for a while now, jamming it out, playing songs, and protesting in LA. In that time, they’ve been toying with the idea of a Killing in the Name cover.

It all started to come together over Twitter. MGK went on the platform to announce, “F**k it, I’m cutting a Rage Against The Machine cover tonight.” He called Barker in and the two got to work.
they wrote this song in 1992. it’s been 28 years since, and every word still applies.

Barker was, obviously, down. Kelly posted the track and a simple message online. “They wrote this song in 1992. It’s been 28 years since and every word still applies.”
Final thought: As we said when Barker recorded his Nirvana covers with Post Malone, it’s always a risky business when you cover such a well-known song from such a well-known band. And, to be fair, there’s an element of this that’s a little bit opportunistic and hacky, but it goes to show that the song’s still a f**ken banger. Even without the RATM boys playing it, it still rips.
