Police pose as window-washers to bust drivers on their phones

If you’ve ever seen a bloody good movie, you’ve probably heard of the idea of undercover cops. These legendary masters of intrigue and subterfuge are the cops right at the coal-face of the fight against crime. They’re the ones getting their hands dirty and making sure that crime cannot prosper. Fortunately, a special crack unit of undercover cops descended on a Victorian town the other day and made sure those sneaky bloody Victorians couldn’t keep using their mobile phones while they were driving.

The daring coppers are understood to have assumed the role of humble window-washers. They strapped on the hi-vis and wired themselves up with walkie talkies in the death-defying raid. As a result, they netted a whopping $18,000 in fines.

One of the scoundrels who caught them in the act first noticed something was up when one of the window-washers was using said walkie-talkie. Deadset, it’s a rookie error. Everyone knows window-washers carry greasy rags and durries, not bloody walkie-talkies.

Nevertheless, the walkie-talkie-brandishing one was spying out the cheeky pricks who were using their phone while they were driving and sending word down to another cop who would pull the car over and issue a fine of over 400 dollary-doos.

Victoria Police confirmed, “Forest Hill police officers conducted a traffic operation in Nunawading yesterday targeting distracted drivers. Part of the operation involved covert observations of drivers in stationary vehicles. Police issued 38 infringement notices to drivers for using their mobile phone while driving.”

If there’s anything we learn from this it’s that the undercover cops truly are masters of disguise – as long as they remember not to use their walkie-talkies too obviously.

Final thought: Could we all just agree to stay off our mobile phones while we’re driving? You really do run the risk of hurting yourself – or someone else – and we could put these cops to use elsewhere.
