UFC Fighter inconsolable after nasty fight ending eye-poke

There’s no two ways about it; mixed-martial arts is not a sport for the weak. Yeah, nah, even if you win you’re probably gonna get punched in the f**ken head, and even the accidental risks are ones that can send you to Destination F**ked in the worst possible way. And it’s on that note that we come to the closing bout of UFC Fight Night 187. The contest between Belal Muhammed and Leon Edwards was one that had people pretty excited. By the end of it, though, an accidental eye-poke left Muhammed screaming that he couldn’t see.

Yeah, nah. Nah, nah, nah. A poke in the eye is probably only second place to a kick in the d*ck, and plenty of people reckon the one that Muhammed copped is one of the worst they’ve ever seen. On top of that, it was the second one on the night.

Early in the second round, Edwards went for a f**ken kick, throwing his hand out to get his balance right, and it connected with Muhammed’s right eye, sending him down like a sack of potatoes. Deadset, just a squiz at some of the pics’ll show you how bad it was, and we reckon it’s a safe bet to say that it must have hurt like a mother**ker.

Blood came pissing out of Muhammed’s eye, and doctors had a hard time getting a look at it because he was so shaken. “I can’t see anything!” he screamed as they tried to get a look.

For his part in it, Edwards was equally distraught. “I went for the crosshead kick, he stepped into it and I really apologise. I’d rather a loss than that, you know. I’m heartbroken, I don’t know what to say.”

The fight was called off, but fortunately Belal hasn’t received any permanent damage. He took to Twitter to share the good news:

“My heart is shattered my first main event ended like that but Gods the best of planners I’m sorry to the fans and the @ufc you deserved a full fight.. Alhamdillah the vision is coming back and no permanent damage to the eye I’ll be back and want to run it back @Leon_edwardsmma”

Final thought: Yeah, nah, we know the UFC comes in for a bit of flak at times, but you’ve gotta give credit where it’s due. The competitors are warriors in every sense of the word. Imagine copping that s**t and still being keen to go again. Bugger that. Anyway, let us know what you reckon. Did you watch it? What did you think? You know where to post your comments.
