Jim Carrey to play Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog movie

It might not feel like it, but it’s been twenty-seven years since Sonic the bloody Hedgehog came hurtling out of the blocks and into our lives. The speedy little blue b*stard has pretty much been an eternal fixture of the video game world ever since. Finally, the prick is getting his own movie, and Jim Carrey is hotly tipped to play the hedgehog’s arch nemesis, Dr Robotnik.

Yeah, that’s right. Jim Carrey, the rubber-faced comedian turned movie star might well be assuming the role of another eccentric character. You’d probably be forgiven for thinking Carrey had thrown in the towel when it came to acting in movies that need his skills. Despite his experience playing off-kilter villains like The Grinch and The Riddler, it’s been a while since Carrey embraced the dark side.

The upcoming Sonic movie, which would have been bloody handy when I was a young whippersnapper, is apparently gonna blend live action with CGI, so Carrey should be a live action character. If that means we get to see him pulling a range of elastic faces as he threatens a possibly CGI Sonic, he should be able to bring laughs to a whole new generation of little tuckers.

The film will feature Deadpool Director, Tim Miller as an executive director, and James Marsden as an as yet unidentified character. One question we’ve got to bloody well ask though? What the f**k is with human characters in a Sonic movie? Surely, it’d have to be more simple to CGI the whole lot.

Anyway, despite the obvious questions around some of the seemingly bizarre choices being made, you’ve got to say that it is about bloody time Sonic had his own Hollywood movie. Even the most pessimistic wankers can respect that it’s not just another reboot.

Final thought: Any excuse to see Jim Carrey pulling faces like he did in the old days is all right with me. What do you blokes and blokettes reckon? Are we in for some gold, or is this a train wreck in action? Let us know in the comments.
