Bloke takes hilarious photos of his premature son doing ‘manly’ things

One of the greatest things about having little ones is teaching them how to be grown-ups. It’s a bloody heart-warming activity to teach your little man how to do some of the awesome things you used to do as a young fella and to grow up big and strong. In a similar vein, there’s nothing like teaching your girl how to be a strong independent woman. Matt McMillan is a dad who’s clearly stoked to teach his son how to do manly things – and he’s got the photos to prove it.

This is a great little story that shows how a sense of humour, a touch of Photoshop, and a bit of a pun can make for awesome photos. The kid in the snaps is Matt’s little man, Ryan. Ryan was clearly keen to get out in the real world and start getting some experience under his belt, because at nine weeks premature, he was like, “Yeah, f**k this sh*t. I need outta this womb to be a man.”

Matt told Bored Panda, “We joked that he wasn’t premature just “advanced” – so I came up with the idea that we should do a photo shoot of him doing manly adult things. Some of the setups were elaborate – like for the bench press photo. For this one, I made a rig that hung from the ceiling. It mounted the camera and also held the barbell above Ryan so all he had to do was grip it rather than hold it up.”

As you can see, the results are f**ken spectacular. That’s because of Matt’s Photoshop magic. “After I got the pictures of Ryan, I would take some shots of anything that he couldn’t actually hold, like the axe swinging or the fish on the fishing line. After each shoot, I would comb through these hundreds of photos and choose the best ones. I then used Photoshop to remove myself from the pictures and combine the best parts of his body into a unified composite photo,” he said.

Considering how scary the early days of a premature baby’s life can be, this is a great way to move past the stress and appreciate the joy Ryan’s brought into his parents’ lives.

Final thought: These photos are bloody awesome. It really goes to show you just can’t trust what you see these days. After all, if Ryan really was chopping wood, Matt would be axing for trouble.
