Builder discovers Instagram ‘influencers’ and decides he’s going to become one

It’s well-known that when it comes to tongue-in-cheek fun, terrible puns and hilariously wholesome comedy, no one has it down like your dad. With their stupid jokes, insistence on ‘resting their eyes’ during family movie night and asking you to pull their finger, they’re usually a pretty predictable bunch, but every now and then, they still manage to surprise. Have a squiz at Omar, one of Instagram’s latest ‘influencers’ and you’ll see what we mean.

So, to set the scene, it was only a little while ago that bloody Omar came home from a hard day on site, hung up his hard hat and his hi-vis and asked his daughter Barbara just what exactly an Instagram ‘influencer’ was.

Upon hearing Barb’s response, the Texan builder gave the most dad-level response possible: “Pssh, I could do that.” Clearly, Omar’s the kind of guy who puts his money where his mouth is, because, as you can tell, he has gone and done exactly that.

Using the handle Justaconstructionguy, he’s expertly making a mockery of all those who take their title way too seriously and he’s doing it on-site and in his Bob the builder get-up. The results of his experiment speak for themselves. He’s approaching 500-thousand followers.

If you have a bit of geez through his albums, you’ll see some of the classics there: in one, he’s sipping from a dainty espresso while smiling happily. In another, he’s even rocking the ‘walk away from a bloke while holding your hand out’ pose. Cheekily captioned with the phrase, ‘am I doing this right?’ that particular happy-snap has landed him about 36,000 likes.

There’s no word from Barbara, apart from an acknowledgement that Omar has actually proved that, yeah, nah, he could do that, but then, considering the old boy is probably reminding her every day, we can’t blame her.

Final thought: Look, we love it when someone having a laugh comes along and shakes the established narcissists and posers of Instagram up by mocking them, but to be honest, we’re not surprised. Dads can do all kinds of cool stuff. So, let us know, what can your dad do?
