Archaeologists find preserved Roman Chariot from eruption that destroyed Pompeii

Mate, pretty much everyone knows about the vast archaeological site of Pompeii, and is familiar with what happened there. After all, it’s pretty much the poster-boy for towns destroyed – and preserved – by erupting volcanos. Just in case you’re one of the few who’s not too sure, Pompeii used to be a thriving port city not far from Naples in Italy. And then Mount Vesuvius sent it to Destination F**ked in AD79. In a bizarre twist of fate, though, this s**t was f**ken great for modern archaeologists who’ve found that the falling ash preserved much of the city under a layer of protective ash.

Just to be clear, that ash still killed everything, it’s just that anything it landed on was trapped in place and the particulate solidified over the top of it. The people decayed inside those volcanic tombs, allowing archaeologists to cast the hollows left behind with plaster, but loads of the buildings were left as they were, and it’s a fascinating place to visit.

And all of that brings us to this story. Archaeologists have just found a fully sick chariot that’s pretty much perfectly preserved. The historic vehicle was found at a Civita Giuliana villa just outside of Pompeii, and it’s f**ken shmick as.

According to nerdist.com, the chariot is in tops condition with a seat, metal armrests, iron wheels, and decorations of nymphs, cupids, and satyrs in bronze and tin. The bloody thing’s practically been left intact and is the first discovery of its kind to be this well preserved.

Apparently, this was a fancy-pants chariot that would have been used for weddings and ceremonies as opposed to one that was used for general transport. Have a look at the photos to get an idea of how bloody awesome it is.
