Comic Con Security Break Up Fight Between Jean-Claude Van Damme and Power Ranger

In a scene that’ll abso-bloody-lutely get you reminiscing about the 90s, the muscles from Brussels, Jean-Claude Van Damme and the Green Power Ranger, Jason David Frank shaped up to each other and aired some grievances at Comic Con.

This news has taken me back to my youth. Jean-Claude Van Damme and the Green Power Ranger facing up like two seagulls fighting over a cold chip; what could be better?

It’s f***ing on. It’s gonna be a throw-down, it’s Saturday night and it is, as Elton would say, all right for fighting. It’s time for some bloodsport.

There’s no retreat. There’s no surrender. There’s nowhere to bloody well run.

Now, back in 1995 when Van Damme was somewhere between Street Fighter and Maximum Risk, he attended the premiere of the first Power Rangers movie, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and that’s where he and Jason David Frank, the green power ranger and MMA fighter first developed some beef.

Details on that are sketchy at best, but this time we’ve got the joy of instantly gratifying internet to keep us posted on all the ins and outs of this near fracas. Apparently, some absolute troll at Comic Con Mexico City arranged for the two – and their simmering twenty-year grudge – to share a room. It’s almost brilliant in its deviousness isn’t it?

Not long after getting there, Frank received a request from Van Damme for a photo. When he arrived at the rendezvous point, it became clear that it was a cheeky Belgian setup.

Here’s what Frank had to say about it in an interview with Flo Combat’s Damon Martin:

“All of his crew comes out and everybody has their cameras out and he has this professional camera, I’m not sure if he’s shooting a reality show or what, but all the cameras are on and he comes out of the room and straight up to me and he goes ‘hey you like writing articles about people, you want to beat my ass?” Frank said recounting the altercation. “You gonna apologize for that?’ and I said nope. He goes ‘you think you can still beat my ass?’ and I said yeah.

“He said ‘OK let’s do it right now’. I mean I thought it was all a joke but his security was all filming this and I heard them talking in the back and it was clear that he was trying to punk me. Either make me look bad or throw a punch first.”

Van Damme decided it was time to take off his necklace and watch, which is obviously how aging rich dudes fight.

“I clinched him up and pushed him back, not in a violent way, in a respectful way that if you want to do this, let’s do this,” Frank said. “The whole time everybody is filming me and no security people are coming but everybody in his entourage is filming. So I clinched up with him and put him against the wall and he’s talking and he froze up and I raised my knee and said ‘do you want to this?’ and he doesn’t do anything so I let go.

“I backed away and he starts saying ‘well be careful what you say, you never know what I’m gonna do’. So that’s when it escalated and his security guy came in and broke it up.”

They could be fighting, but with the right caption they could be making out too.  Either way, the dude in white is into it.

I have to say, I hoped for more. Still, no matter how disappointing this turns out to be, it’s still not as bad as TimeCop.
